On Saturday the 6th of March 2010 I decided to spend a day in Fun Land; a large arcade in the Trocadero at Picadilly Circus. The venue is famous for previously holding SEGA World London from 1996 to 1999. Have a look at the below video I made which gives a little tour of the area as well as a look at some of the SEGA arcade machines you can play there.

First Details on Plantinum Games' Vanquish [UPDATE]

Eurogamer has published the first details on Platinum Games' Vanquish; the last title they will develop under SEGA's publishing banner. First of all, here's what we assumed the game would be:

"We're going to guess this will be a 360/PS3 release and since it comes from the man behind Resident Evil 4, it'll probably be a third person shooter."

And here's what Eurogamer are saying:

"PlatinumGames' new game Vanquish will be released this winter in Japan. Director Shinji Mikami has also confirmed development for both PS3 and 360.

Speaking to Famitsu, Mikami explained that Vanquish differs from normal shooters by being third-person, fast and filled with robo-baddies. The message: this is not Halo - although you'd be forgiven for thinking otherwise after watching the first Vanquish video."

Ding ding ding! We are the winners! Maybe we should get out more...

Eurogamer will be uploading a write-up of a chat they've had with Platinum Games regarding Vanquish soon. Stay tuned.

[UPDATE 04/03/2010]
Eurogamer have uploaded their Vanquish preview. Click here to check it out.

[Source: Eurogamer]

We love Pown.it. If you've never been to Pown.it you haven't lived. The site is a random collection of short, looped flash videos ranging from funny, music orientated or just plain weird animations and films. I came across this one recently and realised I had to share it with the SEGA and Sonic community:

If you happen to go looking around the site afterwards, be warned. A lot of this stuff is not safe for work or children. However, this one is safe.

[Source: Pown.it]

Alpha Protocol Release Date Confirmed

The release date for Alpha Protocol, the special ops RPG from Obsidian Entertainment has been confirmed for the 28th of May 2010. This goes for all 3 formats; PS3, 360 and PC. Here's the full press release:

SEGA® Europe Ltd. are proud to announce that Obsidian Entertainment’s long awaited Alpha Protocol is hitting store shelves this summer. The espionage game, a fiercely original take on the role playing game genre, will launch in Europe on 28th May 2010 for the Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system, the PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system and PC Games For Windows.

“Alpha Protocol offers a new take on the RPG genre giving players the chance to immerse themselves in the world of modern day espionage,” said Gary Knight, European Marketing Director of SEGA Europe. “Being the first ever RPG in this setting, Obsidian have written a truly immersive storyline with a cast of characters everyone will remember.”

With a plot torn from today’s headlines and more twists than a blockbuster movie, Alpha Protocol brings a new level of modern day realism to the world of RPGs. Tasked with uncovering the perpetrators behind a tragic missile attack on a passenger jetliner, players dive into a story rich with characters and locations to discover an international arms-dealing conspiracy. Through their actions and choices, players direct the outcome of the game as they ultimately decide who to befriend, trust or kill.

In Alpha Protocol, players assume the role of rookie spy Michael Thorton and are given unprecedented control over the development of his abilities and interactions with other characters. Customisable character skill-sets, attributes and weapons all play an important role in allowing gamers to tailor Thorton to their play-style.

Alpha Protocol is set to release in Europe on 28th May 2010 on the Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system, the PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system and PC Games For Windows.

SEGA's also uploaded a whole heap of screenshots, artwork and cover shots to a seperate Flickr gallery. Click here to see them!

New Sonic 4 Info: Dimps Confirmed and a Leak Reveals Stage Names

An entry on the X-Box Live Marketplace has revealed that Dimps are working on Sonic 4! Dimps are the developer best known for the Sonic Advance and Sonic Rush series, as well as developers of the daytime stages for Sonic Unleashed on the Wii and PS2.

This is incredibly good news for fans of classic Sonic games as Dimps have been the single developer who've kept classic, Sonic gameplay at the forefront of their games. We're certainly excited :)

Also, a leak was revealed last night which brought alpha footage and new screenshots of Sonic 4. This leak confirmed that 4 zones will make it into Sonic 4 as well as a special stage. The zone names are Splash Hill Zone, Lost Labyrinth Zone, Casino Street Zone and Mad Gear Zone. We're certainly hoping Mad Gear Zone will be Final Fight themed (unlikely )!

Unfortunately, the video and screenshots have now been removed from most sites at the request of SEGA. They were quick on this one!

[Source: 1UP and The Sonic Stadium]

Ivy the Kiwi? Not a SEGA Game After All

Prope's Ivy the Kiwi? is not going to be published by SEGA after all. Namco Bandai have picked up the game for release on Wiiware, DSiWare and a full, packaged retail release for the 22nd of April in Japan.

When SEGA funded the opening of Yuji Naka's Prope studio, one of the agreements was that if SEGA refuses to publish a game by the studio, only then are they allowed to sell the game to another publisher. This is probably why the studio is releasing this game through Namco Bandai.

Other than the publisher, the only new information about the game is that it will now feature a 4 player race mode. Still no word on a Western release at this time.

[Source: TSSZ News]
